We are very fortunate at Cedar Fork to have developed schedules that provide our staff members two opportunities to meet in Professional Learning Teams.

Every six days each grade level has a common planning time during first period (9:10-9:55). Morning arrival coverage is provided by our teacher assistants in the classrooms on this day. This allows the teachers to start their PLTs at 8:30 and continue them until 9:55. The morning PLTs focus on grade levels working collaboratively as they focus on the 4 essential questions –

  • What is it we expect students to learn?
  • How will we know when they have learned it?
  • How will we respond when they don’t learn?
  • How will we respond when they already know it?

Our second Professional Learning Team time comes each Wednesday afternoon during Wake Wednesday. This is the time that all staff members meet in grade levels to discuss individual students who are struggling. Assessment data is reviewed to determine appropriate interventions and progress monitoring tools for these students. This time slot allows our teachers with specialized training to participate in PLT discussions and this is especially helpful.

We believe at Cedar Fork that teamwork creates opportunities for individual learning and improvement. Ultimately, students are the primary beneficiaries of both of our PLT times.
